My journey with Yoga

As a child, I was all too familiar with the struggles of asthma. Every breath felt like a battle, each wheeze a reminder of my limitations. My mother, ever the determined guardian, sought every possible remedy, from inhalers to diets, herbal teas to breathing exercises. Despite her tireless efforts, nothing seemed to grant me the relief I so desperately needed.

One day, my mother heard about the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), a place renowned for its holistic approach to healing. Intrigued and hopeful, she decided to introduce me to their teachings. I was skeptical, to say the least. The idea of yoga, with its slow movements and deep breaths, seemed like a tedious task for a restless kid like me. But my mother’s unwavering belief and the gentle encouragement from my instructor persuaded me to give it a try.

The initial days at KYM were challenging. My young mind struggled to find the patience for the slow, deliberate poses and controlled breathing exercises. Yet, I couldn’t deny a subtle change beginning to take place. Each session seemed to unlock a new realm of possibility within my lungs, a space where breath flowed more freely and easily. The wheezing, which had been a constant background noise in my life, began to quiet down.
Months turned into a year, and with it came a transformation I could hardly believe.

My asthma attacks, once frequent and debilitating, had all but disappeared. For the first time in my life, I could breathe deeply without fear. The freedom in each breath was a revelation, a gift I had never thought possible. Breath is something many take for granted, but for me, it became a precious treasure, a newfound strength.

Despite my initial reluctance, I had come to appreciate the power of yoga. The practices at KYM had given me more than just physical relief; they had bestowed upon me a sense of inner calm and resilience. When an opportunity arose to delve deeper into this glorious form and share it with others, I knew I had to seize it.

Embracing the chance to learn and teach, I embarked on a new journey. My past struggles fueled my passion to help others discover the healing potential of yoga. I became a beacon of hope for those grappling with similar challenges, guiding them towards a path of breath and well-being.

From a wheezy, asthmatic kid to a devoted practitioner and teacher, my story is a testament to the transformative power of yoga. It taught me that with patience and dedication, even the most daunting obstacles can be overcome. Breath, once my greatest adversary, had become my greatest ally, thanks to the wisdom and practices of KYM.

As I ventured into adulthood, my health challenges took on a new form. Out of nowhere, bronchitis made an unwelcome return, bringing with it a haunting echo of my childhood struggles. Each cough and gasp for air was a stark reminder of the battles I had fought and won before. Determined not to let this setback define me, I resolved to return to the practices that had once saved me.

I reconnected with the Mandiram and enrolled for the teachers training course to learn more. Each yoga session became a journey back to wellness, a slow but steady climb towards regaining control over my health. The familiar poses and breathing exercises, once my childhood saviors, began to work their magic again. Gradually, the tightness in my chest loosened, and the relentless coughs subsided.

Now, as I stand on the path of recovery, I am reminded once more of the incredible resilience of the human spirit and the profound impact of yoga. My health is falling back into place, one breath at a time. The journey has come full circle, and I am more convinced than ever of the power within us all to heal and thrive.
